In today’s hectic world, time is one of the most precious gifts that you can share. Even an hour or two once a month could make a significant difference in the lives of one of our residents or to our organization in general. Opportunities exist for you to have one-on-one interaction with our residents or for you to donate your professional skills to our staff. Assistance is needed in a wide variety of areas, including:
- Visiting with your pet
- Reading to resident
- Assisting residents with accessing their email
- Baking for one of our fund-raisers
- Answering phones at our reception desk
- Greeting our customers in our gift shop
- Soliciting prizes for our annual auction
At each residence there are varied opportunities to help out. At Saint Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich, "The Friends of Saint Elizabeth," is a volunteer group whose purpose is to plan and execute functions for the sole purpose of raising funds to benefit the residents. Each year there is a Fall Festival in October, a 20-week club in mid winter, a High Tea in May, and a Gift Shop open all year. These activities require the dedication of volunteers to be successful. Call Saint Elizabeth Home for more information.
“After I retired, I didn’t have a purpose. It [volunteering] gives me a purpose in life”
~ Denise Metz
I began volunteering when I came to Rhode Island because I needed older people in my life. My grandparents were always close and were a big influence. I miss that.”
~ Elsa Reverendo
You’ve got to give back. I do because I’m grateful for what I’ve had in my life.”
