Saint Elizabeth Home Receives Advancing Innovation in Healthcare Award at Statewide Celebration of Healthcare Quality

, RI – Saint Elizabeth Home, in East Greenwich, was awarded the 2008 Quality Partners’ Advancing Innovation in Nursing Homes at the 5th Annual Celebration of Quality Improvement in Rhode Island. Held on October 6, the event was hosted by Quality Partners of Rhode Island along with honorary co-chairs United States Senator Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse with over 200 healthcare leaders and professionals attended the event. The formal awards program included recognition of providers working to improve healthcare in nursing homes, hospitals and home health agencies and as well as consumer health.

H. John Keimig, Quality Partners’ Chief Executive Officer, said of the morning “this event is a celebration of the advances and improvements in healthcare quality and patient safety being pioneered in the State of Rhode Island.”

Saint Elizabeth Home was recognized for their work in the area of “Pressure Area Prevention” and their staff significantly decreased the number of residents who developed pressure ulcers, through proactive assessment and interventions.“We are proud to receive this award, and grateful to be recognized as an innovative leader in providing high quality nursing home care,” says Administrator Matthew Trimble.“On behalf of a dedicated interdisciplinary team, I accept this award recognizing our commitment to improving quality of life of the individuals in our care.”

Other event highlights included the keynote address by Stephen Harden, Patient Safety expert and President of LifeWings Partners. He has helped over 80 healthcare organizations in 26 states implement the best safety practices from aviation and other high reliability industries. He is also the co-author of “CRM: The Flight Plan for Lasting Change in Patient Safety,” the definitive how-to text on implementing aviation-based safety tools in healthcare, published by HCPro.

Applications submitted for Quality Partners’ 2008 Advancing Innovation in Healthcare Awards were reviewed by a panel of judges with expertise within the specific award category, and were scored on a number of criteria, including the implementation of a specific initiative that directly impacted the delivery of quality care, innovation of the initiative as well as the proven ability to sustain and reproduce results.
